Are atmospheric water producers considered to be safe?

Yes, making water with an atmospheric water maker is a safe way to get water. In fact, it’s also good for the earth.

Here’s how it goes:

There are many different gases in the air we breathe, including water vapour. This water mist can be turned into drinkable water in two ways:

1) Drying out the water vapour, letting it condense, and then gathering and purifying it to make water that can be drunk.

Have you ever seen water coming out of your air conditioner? 

Well It’s only because it’s drying out. Its main job is to cool a room which it does by drawing air into the system. It sends it over chilled stainless steel coils which condense the water vapour and push it out of the air conditioner.

The air that is used is passed through a hepa filter that removes particulate matter as well as fumes present in the air.

Through these loops a refrigerant runs, which quickly absorbs heat energy and changes from a gas to a liquid and back again. It goes from the evaporator coil to the compressor to the condenser coil and then back to the evaporator coil. However the water is untouched by this as it is only the air that moves over the food grade coils, and condenses into droplets.  Hence the water is safe and it is also fed through a five stage filter..

The size of the pump, the temperature of the air around it and the humidity of the air all of these depend on how much water is produced.

2) Dehumidification with a liquid desiccant technique

Desiccants are chemical substances that tend to soak up wetness from the air. Desiccant-based water makers work by passing moist air over a mixture of salt. Salt is a natural desiccant. Then the wet salt is heated until it boils. The steam is then collected and sent to filters to be processed. The biggest advantage of desiccant technology over vapour compression is that it works better when the humidity is low and uses less energy.

Considering how much more people want clean water this seems like a good way to stay hydrated. This machine can make clean drinking water from nothing but air so it is a sustainable source of water that can be used.
